Adrianita Avila is one of the Directors of Imperio Juvenil in Cali, Colombia. Her and her boyfriend Jefferson Benjumea are better known worldwide as the electrifying couple "Jefferson y Adrianita". Together, they have won multiple salsa championships worldwide dancing Salsa Caleña. As they prepare for the World Salsa Summit, we took a few minutes to learn more about Adrianita Avila.
Hi my name is Adriana Avila, better known as Adrianita.
At what age did you start dancing, and why?
I started dancing at 3 years old, since I was little I loved to move around. My mom and dad decided to put me in a dance school! I’ve travelled since I was 8 years old. At 13 I felt this was my life calling and I hope to continue dancing.
As a World Champion, what distinguishes your style from the rest of the competition?
As a world champion, i think what distinguishes me is my Salsa Caleña. I dance On 2, On 1, every type of style, but my Salsa Caleña is what sets me apart. Obviously every dancer has their talent, but I do it with love, a lot a lot of love.
How do you prepare for a competition such as the World Salsa Summit?
We prepare our choreographies 6 months in advance. Our current one is brand new, and it’s very difficult. Once our choreography is done, this one we’ll be debuting at World Salsa Summit, we compete with it. We gave a preview to ESPN but for the general public it’ll be the first time they see it. We practice 2 hours or more a day, every day, as diligently and disciplined as possible even after injuries, fights and tears.
What is your favorite Social Dancing look?
What’s my favorite social dancing look? Well, I’m always made up but when I have a chance to go dancing I like to put on bold colors. I love dark, sparkly colors. I like what’s noticeable.
What do you love about HUSH by Jesse Cosmetics?
First, I love that the brand is fun and different, like Lambada, Samba Cha-Cha, Conga, it has everything to do with what we do as dancers and our music. Second, I love how resistant it is. It lasts a long time and it doesn’t crack. It doesn’t crack on your lips and you don’t have to worry about accidentally eating it. It feels like nothings there! I also love the colors, they’re spectacular and just my style.
We hope you enjoy these beautiful photos of Adrianita Avila and stay tuned for many more dance and lifestyle blogs brought to you by Hush Cosmetics!
