by Jesse Castaneda January 02, 2017

Amelia Beniquez Munoz is the co-director and owner of Omambo Dance Project in Los Angeles, CA. Her and her husband Omar are just off their trip to The World Latin Dance Cup where Omambo placed in three divisions! She took some time to catch up with us and let us get to know her off the dance floor.

Tell me about your training, What's brought you this far in dance?

I've danced my whole life. My mom is a Folklorico Dance Teacher so I have grown up with the passion and love for it. My siblings and I also danced different genres growing up so I knew that dance would always be a part of who I am. Through the years I've been fortunate to learn from some incredible teachers and have amazing experiences with people who will always be a part of my life. I think what has brought me to this point is knowing that a dancer’s journey never ends and there are so many things to experience and lives you can touch through dance if you keep working hard.

Omambo Dance Project LadiesWhat inspires you to dance?

So many things continue to inspire me! I've always loved the artistry and creative expression of all types of music and dance. I enjoy working with people from different walks and stages of life doing something that we all enjoy together, from connecting on the dance floor to performing onstage and everything in between. Our students are such an inspiration, they work so hard and are eager to learn as much as they can. I love to see them shine.

Omambo Dance Project Beginner LadiesWhat advice would you give to yourself if you could go back in time?

I would tell myself to not hold back from anything that I wanted to do or second guess myself and just go for it. I'm happy that I'm taking my own advice now.

Tell us about your daily makeup routine!

My routine is pretty simple since I'm at the studio daily. Moisturizing is a must and I usually go for a touch of mascara and a light lip color. What do you do to amplify your makeup for the stage and camera?  Lashes and lips are my favorite part of make up. I love a beautiful full lash and a bright and bold lip color. Red is definitely my favorite. Give a girl red and she can rule the world! I also love to add some sparkle on the eyes or lips for that extra shine onstage.

Lastly but certainly not least- what do you love about Hush Cosmetics?

It lasts for hours! I can wear it to congresses and don't have to do any touch ups at all, it lasts all night through performing and social dancing. The colors really pop and I love that they are named after all the dances we love.
